FIP Promises junior age categories and eligibility (2026)
- U12: Players must not turn 13 during 2026.
- U14: Players must not turn 15 during 2026.
- U16: Players must not turn 17 during 2026.
- U18: Players must not turn 19 during 2026.
The age eligibility is determined by the calendar year, not simply the player's age on the day of the tournament.
For example, a player who is 12 at the time of the tournament but turns 13 in December 2026 is not eligible for U12.
Minimum age: Under the standard 2026 FIP Promises rules, players who do not turn 9 during the calendar year are not eligible for U12, subject to the specific 2026 exception in the regulations.
Participation in higher age categories
Under the FIP Promises ranking rules, players may participate in their own age category and one category above, with a maximum of two categories:
- U12 players may participate in U12 and U14.
- U14 players may participate in U14 and U16.
- U16 players may participate in U16 and U18.
- U18 players may participate in U18 only within the junior categories.
Coaching rules
- U12 and U14: Coaches are not permitted to coach on court. They must remain in the designated surrounding areas or stands and may not give instructions to players.
- U16 and U18: One registered coach per pair is permitted on court, subject to the applicable FIP coaching regulations.
